The Audit Commission has given Newcastle under Lyme a score of 3 out of 4 in the four tests that assess the council's performance. Only the Moorlands, of all the Staffordshire authorities, scored higher.

Newcastle is the most improved council in the country for the second year running. This is a credit to all partners involved in providing public services in Newcastle.

Liberal Democrat responsibilities praised include: Cleaner streets - Improved recycling - Improved planning service - Environmentally friendly construction - Britain in Bloom success and high quality parks; Managing homelessness - Provision of affordable homes - Improved services for children and young people - Focus on sustainability - Increasing job opportunities.

Three Newcastle-u-Lyme Liberal Democrat cabinet members, including Cllr Mary Maxfield are working to make Newchapel a better place to live.
